Celeste Barber & the Supermodels for Marie Claire

Celeste Barber & the Return of the 1990s Supermodels for Marie Claire

There are some shoots you walk into knowing they’re going to be special — and this one was exactly that. Recently, I had the privilege of creating the makeup for the super models for the Marie Claire’s feature starring the incredible Celeste Barber, celebrating the power, influence, and unapologetic beauty of the 1990s supermodels. Celeste’s makeup was done by Kristin low & hair by Koh.

Think Naomi, Linda, Cindy, Christy… that unforgettable era of sculpted cheeks, barely-there brows, glossy skin, and effortless glamour. And of course — the attitude. The 90s weren’t just a decade; they were an energy. And Celeste channeled it perfectly.

The creative direction for this shoot paid homage to the iconic supermodel era with a contemporary twist. It was all about celebrating women who shaped beauty culture — and the women still reshaping it today.

With Celeste Barber fronting the story, the vibe was clear from the start: confident, elevated, playful, and full of personality. She brought that signature Celeste energy — raw, hilarious, honest — and combined it with undeniable high-fashion presence. It was magic.

The Makeup: 90s Supermodel, Reimagined

For the makeup for the 3 girls, Linda, cristy Naomi I wanted to honour that unmistakable 90s look while making it feel fresh and modern.

Skin:
Satin, polished, and expensive. Skin that looks like skin — but better. I prepped using deep hydration and light-reflecting textures to build radiance without heaviness.

Brows:
Soft, brushed up, and natural. Think Christy Turlington minimalism rather than razor-thin arches.

Eyes:
Taupes, soft smokes, and subtle contouring to sculpt without overpowering. That classic 90s almond shape.

Cheeks:
Sculpted but seamless, with a hint of warmth — a nod to Naomi’s iconic bone structure.

Lips:
A nude lip with subtle dimension. Slightly overlined, beautifully blended, very Cindy Crawford energy.

The Atmosphere on Set

Like any super creative shoot the energy was collaborative, creative, and full of intention. Celeste had the entire crew laughing between frames, but the moment the camera lifted — she delivered.

There’s something powerful about watching a woman step into a look inspired by one of the most confident eras in beauty history. She didn’t just wear the supermodel vibe — she embodied it.

Why the 90s Still Inspire Us

The 1990s supermodel era continues to influence beauty because it struck the perfect balance between simplicity and luxury. The makeup was wearable. The hair was sexy yet effortless. The women were strong, iconic, and unforgettable.

This shoot was the perfect blend of nostalgia and modern beauty — a celebration of expression, individuality, and iconic femininity. I’m incredibly proud of the looks we created and grateful to have collaborated with such a phenomenal team and an even more phenomenal woman.
