During the cooler months in Australia, it’s important to adjust your skincare routine to combat the harsh weather conditions that can wreak havoc on your skin. Cold temperatures, low humidity, and indoor heating can leave your skin dry, dull, and prone to irritation. However, with the right skincare, you can maintain a healthy and glowing complexion throughout the chilly months.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate: The cold air can be extremely dehydrating for your skin. Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated from within.
Additionally, use a moisturiser & or serum that is rich in hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture and create a protective barrier on your skin. I love The Ordinary Hyaluronic serum available at Sephora.
Gentle Cleansing: Avoid using harsh cleansers that can strip away your skin’s natural oils. Opt for a gentle, creamy or oil cleanser that will effectively cleanse your skin without drying it out. Consider double cleansing in the evenings to remove makeup and impurities while still keeping your skin nourished.
I’m currently obsessed with Dermalogicas Oil to Foam Total Cleanser
“This dual make-up remover and cleanser starts as a golden gel-oil infused with Sea Buckthorn Oil; massage into skin to melt away layers of make-up, sebum (oil), and sunscreen. A splash of water transforms the gel-oil into a rich cloud-like foam to wash away debris and any remaining impurities. This foaming cleanser with a plant-derived prebiotic leaves skin feeling instantly soft and smooth” (except from Dermalogica.com.au)
Exfoliate Wisely: Exfoliation is important year-round, but during winter, you should be cautious with the frequency and type of exfoliator you use. Opt for gentle exfoliants that won’t cause irritation or dryness. Aim to exfoliate no more than twice a week to slough off dead skin cells and promote cell turnover, revealing a smoother and more radiant complexion.
I love a quick and simple exfoliator especially on shoots, I love ‘Exfoliating swipey’s’ by Go-to skincare Available at Mecca, No water needed, Single-use exfoliating pads soaked in an all-natural solution. The blend of lactic acid and essential oils, gently exfoliate, refine skin texture, minimise the appearance of fine lines and deeply hydrate in as little as 60 seconds.
Protect Your Skin from the Elements: The cold wind can be harsh on your skin, so it’s crucial to protect it from the elements, always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to protect your skin from harmful UV rays, even on cloudy days.
Amp Up the Moisture: During winter, your skin needs extra moisture to combat dryness. Incorporate a hydrating serum or facial oil into your skincare routine to give your skin an extra boost of moisture and nourishment. During the cooler months i choose a richer moisturiser, Look for ingredients like ceramides, Glycogen and natural oils to replenish your skin’s lipid barrier.
For the past 3 weeks I have been using The Photo nature Oxygen cream & it’s a dry skin game changer. My Skin is noticeably more hydrated and plump and with less fine lines. yay!
The The Photo nature Oxygen cream is a “Lightweight liquid cream moisturizer utilizes oxygen-optimizing phytoactives to breathe new life into aging skin. Clinically proven to give 4 years back*, this revitalizing daily cream firms, lifts, plumps, and hydrates skin. Featuring a botanical extract from Ligustrum Lucidum Seed together with Glycogen and Nasturtium Flower helps to oxygenate skin’s surface by hydrating its upper layers for a smooth, energized appearance” (exert taken from Dermalogica.com.au)
Don’t Forget Your Lips – Your lips and hands are often the first to suffer from dryness and chapping during winter. Keep a nourishing lip balm with you at all times and apply it throughout the day & a mini Hand cream in our purse.
Winter skin care requires a little extra effort to keep your skin healthy, radiant, and hydrated. By following these essential tips, you can protect your skin from the harsh weather conditions and maintain a glowing complexion throughout the chilly months. Remember to hydrate, use gentle products, protect your skin from the elements, and nourish it with moisturisers and serums.
